No matter what happens

"What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ" (NIV) Philippians 3:8

The Christian life is a selfless life. Christ as an example emptied himself in order to take upon himself human nature that he may save us (Phil. 2:5ff). In like manner, he admonished the apostles and early Christians to be steadfast no matter what they might have to lose so that they may be fit for the Kingdom.

Many times we struggle to amass wealth, property and to mention but a few. Some of us also fight for partners and friends that God is trying to take away from us. We don’t allow God to have his way in our lives. We try everything possible to act God in our thoughts, deeds and words. Beloved brethren, the time has come for us to let go and let God take control. I know sometimes the situation may be too difficult to handle. It may seem impossible to come out as a victor sometimes but this is the time to trust in God and his grace.

It is not easy to let go something that you might have used your entire life to build. It could be a lifetime career, dream, ambition, relationships, family life, friends etc. letting them go because they don’t fall in line with what God has planned for you can be a bit problematic. But this is our only time to trust God and to put his word in us to test, for his word according to scripture is yeah and amen! Whatever may come our way, God is using it to make us better Christians. We only have to trust in him.

We must acknowledge him in everything and remember to consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage that I may gain Christ. Paul, therefore, exclaims “have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20 NIV).

In all these struggles, sacrifices and losses God whispers some assurance to his children – everyone who has lost family or property for Christ’s sake will be replenished here on earth and the hereafter (Mark 10:28-31).
