Created for Work
"Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground" (NIV) Gen. 2:5
In one of our family devotions when I was growing up, my dad brought this scripture to my consciousness (Gen. 2:5) when he was trying to explain to us (myself, mum and siblings), the value of work.
When the Lord God realized that man had not yet been created, He made mother earth barren, so to speak. Just about when He created man, He moistened the ground, making it ready for man to work it (Gen. 2:6). Right from the onset, Adam was charged with the responsibility of managing the resources in the earth (Gen. 2:20).
My elders have a humorous saying. To wit, “Woe betide you if you are born a man.” The admonition from this saying is simply the fact that once you transition to this earth, you begin your lifelong journey of work.
Beloved, the attitude of the Christian is to find purpose in his work, based on God's word and do everything to the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31). I encourage you to always find godly motivation in your work and do it cheerfully.
