A Perfect Man (Part I)

Written by Philip Addo Bempong.

“For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body" (KJV) James 3:2.

Bible reading: James 3:2-8

The book of James has been a powerful book of inspiration and a guide to the tongue. True religious people become complete when they can bridle their tongue (James 1:26).

How can we learn to control our tongue in order to bridle the whole body to be holy and righteous before God? Let us consider some needful biblical-based suggestions.

Rely on God’s strength to aid you because “The tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8). Rely on God's grace and His strength; “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

Dedicate your heart and tongue to the Lord each day. You face new circumstances and new conversations every day. Regularly acknowledging your need for discernment and God’s grace to help you remain conscious of your words. “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer” (Psalm 19:14).

When we come into Christ, we should rely on the power of the Holy Spirit and the word of God to transform us.

May we be submissive to His word, will and power always.
