Walking in the Spirit

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry (NIV) Ephesians 4:26.

God from creation has been in constant union with all his creation especially with human beings. It is the divine plan of the Lord to continue to walk with mankind. Even though God has been faithful with his commitment and care for us, humanity continues to fail, fall and distance ourselves from walking with God. One great example that stands out when we talk about walking with God is Enoch.

Enoch walked with the Lord to such an extent that he pleased God Almighty (Heb. 11:5). Let us examine how Enoch walked with God. Enoch walked with God by faith and total commitment. He walked in the Spirit of God (Gal. 5:16-26). We must walk in the Spirit as Enoch did to please our maker.

Walking is Spirit means we are dead to sin and live in Christ (Rom 6:1-14). The world has no hope and life for us. Those who live to the flesh have their minds set on the flesh (Rom. 8:3-7). Those whose mind is set on the flesh are those who live in the flesh. Remember, a mindset on the flesh is enmity with God (James 4:4).

If we are of the Spirit then, we are not of the world and we are the children of God. As Christians, we walk in the flesh but because we walk in the Spirit our warfare is spiritual (2 Cor. 10:3-5). Let our conduct be worthy of the Gospel of Christ (Phil. 1:27).

Enoch walked according to the Lord’s expectations and God did not make him taste death but took him away to heaven. If we walk in the Spirit in a similar manner, we have the same hope; that God will welcome us in heaven. Are you walking in Spirit? Is your mindset on the things of the flesh? Is your conduct worthy of the gospel? Walk with the Lord now!
