The “will never” God

Written by Mantebeah Elizabeth Matilda Abena.

"Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, I will never fail you. I will never abandon you" (NLT) Hebrews 13:5

At the beginning of this year, many of us have made resolutions in which we are expecting something great and beautiful from God. The evidence is clear in our numerous posts on social media: amazing year, my year of prosperity, my year of God’s goodness and favour, my year of good health among many others.

But what we haven’t considered is the kind of God we are serving. We serve the world’s generous giver beyond any comparison. The first of his kind!!! He is the one who gave without grudging, and that too He gave his best. So the question we should ask ourselves this year is how well do we know this God and how does our knowledge of him reflect in our resolutions.

If your resolution this year is not a reflection of him, then I guess it’s not too late to review it. We serve a giving God who has promised never to leave us nor forsake us (Matthew 28:20, Isaiah 41:10, Hebrews 13:5). It, therefore, beholds on us to understand that giving to God in every form should be our priority for this year if we truly expect an extraordinary breakthrough in every sector of our life.

We can give from our time, knowledge, all the way to our finances and more in service of God, whether it is in the smallest or biggest form. God never looks down on anything we give to his service as long as it’s from a broken, contrite, willing and cheerful heart (Psalm 51:17, 2 Corinthians 9:7). Do you remember the story of the widow who gave two coins (Mark 12:41-44)? She gave all she had. The same is true for the widow who fed Elijah (1 Kings 17:7-24). The early disciples left all they had and cherished to follow Christ (Matthew 19:27). They too gave their all for the Kingdom’s work.

Some may argue that they have nothing to offer the Lord. I beg to differ; have you forgotten the woman who bled for 12years? She had nothing but what she didn’t realise was her priceless and most valuable ingredient for receiving from God - her faith (Mark 5: 25-34)! And she gave it all to Jesus as she mastered the courage to touch the hem of his garment. Moses had nothing of royalty left of him except for a rod when he met God (Exodus 4:1-9); David had nothing but a sling and stone when he faced Goliath (1 Samuel 17), Joseph had nothing but his name when he was sold into slavery (Genesis 37). His beautiful cloth of pride was stripped off him but not his trust in the living God (Genesis 39:19-23).

Beloved, the list of people who made it their business to give to God is unending. Some gave in kind and others in cash. Some gave their time and others their heart to God and he rewarded them in hundred folds (e.g. Isaac reaped from obedience- Genesis 26:12). Don’t look at your limitations; just give what you have to God because you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Amen. Be blessed as you make it your business to enjoy a year of giving. God "will never", and I mean "will never" leave you.
