A Second Chance

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

“When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” (NKJV) John 8:10-11

It is always an expectation of every person to be treated nicely, accepted and appreciated by others. In our dealings with others, we expect mercy and forgiveness from them even if we make mistakes whether consciously or not. Ironically, we are too quick in passing judgment on others by the outward effects we see and on assumptions. We need to treat people like we want to be treated.

As children of God, we should not be too quick in passing judgment on others. We must be merciful and give others a second chance. We should understand that we are all fallible as human beings and keeps sinning and making mistakes. Becoming extremely angry and accumulating the mistakes of others will not resolve any problem but rather bring problems to you. We all need a second chance when we err and remember that is what God provides us every day through Christ when we sin.

Christians are poor in spirit, always in need of God’s grace. Instead of always getting annoyed with people, we should rather hate practices and the things that grieve the heart of God. Those who are merciful demonstrates it with acts of kindness and love by forgiving others. Be a blessing to others by always forgiving. Jesus said in Luke 6:36: Therefore, be merciful, just as your Father is also merciful.

Be humble and submit to God’s sovereign power in your life. Hunger and thirst for the things acceptable by God. Christians are called to be merciful. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy (Matt 5:7). Jesus our master is merciful and prayed for those who killed Him. Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing (Luke 23:34). When we ourselves are looking for mercy, for another chance, we must realize that we are not that different from others. Give others a second chance today.
