Never take His goodness for granted

Written by Kay Ankomah-Kwakye.

“The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it." (NKJV) Proverbs 10:22

Growing up as a boy, a bottle of soda meant a lot. It meant an occasion, a birthday, a new year, placing first in class or an important visitor. Today, I’ve all but forgotten its value. It’s everywhere. I virtually have to walk to the refrigerator and open a can.

In much the same way, we find ourselves lost in the hustle and bustle of our vibrant world today especially because we are in our youth and have abundant energy. Moving our limbs usually do not come with much difficulty; we’ve taken it for granted. Breathing; taken for granted. Seeing; taken for granted. Can you take an inventory of the seemingly little things we’ve taken for granted?

In all our daily activities, let's never forget that it is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich (Prov. 10:22). The hungry palate’s taste buds are sensitized to each subtle nuance of flavour and are most aware of the hand that feeds it. It is the sated palate that is dull, pushes away the plate and loses a taste for thankfulness.

Carve out a slice of your time, take a personal inventory. Thank God for the raw “gari” and pepper as well as for the roasted steak in your life. ‘Forget none of His benefits’ because forgetting is the first step to falling away.
