Are you in control?

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

"Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey - whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance." (NIV) Romans 6:16-17

The twenty-first century is congested with so many things competing for the attention of Christians. With information overload and the growing need for circumspection in decision making, only those who know who they are and what they are looking for can stay safe within the pressures of this world.

The evil one and his angels are the sources of the many distractions in this world. The moment we (Christians) lose control we become the devil’s servants. It’s a choice we make due to the free will God gave to mankind. This bad choice, no matter how enticing they are presented by the devil, has catastrophic effects on our precious lives. For example, we lose our freedom, self-awareness and touch with reality when we lose control of our lives. These are just a few of the heavy prices we have to pay for losing control.

There are many ways people can lose control of their lives. Three common ways are through addictive drugs, promiscuous sexual activities and greediness/stealing. The Bible urges Christians to mindful of these ways and stay away from them for they are snares to our souls (1 Tim. 6:9, 1 Cor. 6:18, 1 Cor. 6:12). Christians are to be addicted to the worship of God and good treatment of people, not to worldly things (Matt. 22:36-40, 1 John 2:15-17).

Beloved, taking control of our lives is not an easy task but we can surrender that to our Saviour Jesus Christ. He is the only being with Living Water we need to drink from to be liberated from the bondage of the evil one and stay focused on the path that leads to eternal glory (John 4:14). Being by Christ’s side will make you feel safe, secure and significant in this world and the world to come. Christ will raise your self-awareness; help you to learn how to deal with reality and to manage the present and future challenges. He does that through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit in us. Yes, it is only God and His Son who give meaning and purpose to this life. Feel gratified and control your life by aligning yourself with God the creator of your life.

Dear one, be careful of what the world is offering you. If you follow the world and its principles, you will be confused and ultimately lead you to destruction. Be a blessing to yourself, your family and society as a whole by allowing God to control your life. You will be happy; you will be serving the one who loves you forever and ever in Christ Jesus. Amen
