Dishonesty is heartbreaking

Written by Listowell Sarfo Ababio.

"Simon Peter said, "I'm going fishing!" The others said, "We will go with you." They went out in their boat. But they didn't catch a thing that night." (CEV) John 21:3

Sometimes it is difficult to honor promises we make to loved ones. These difficulties stem from the fact that, as humans, we tend to be weakened by our own desires. Can we be justified by these actions because we may have good intentions? No. However, we are expected to trust ourselves and fulfill what we so desire to do.

After the death of our Lord Jesus Christ, some of the disciples saw it fit and homecoming to go back to the shores of the sea of Tiberias, what a sudden forgetfulness. Jesus had already appeared to the disciples in several ways and times (John 20:1ff) and He gave delegated responsibilities to them. (Vs. 21-23). So the question is what made them to easily go back?

As you think about this, allow me to further ask; what do you have as a responsibility towards your family and loved ones? Is there anything that you wish to do to please them? Whatever your answers to these questions are, please don’t forget this: Honesty is the bedrock of being faithful and faithfulness is the key to open the lock of life. For these seven disciples, Jesus joined them to fish, after a long day of no catch…but listen…He asked Peter “do you love me?”

Beloved, ponder once again and ask yourself: do you love him, do you love her, do you love them, and do you love God?

Then this is what Jesus requires of us as He did of Peter in the present of the other disciples, I thee tell; “Feed my sheep”, “follow me.” These are the two phrases that changed the world, bringing it life and happiness.

To be faithful requires us to be remindful of our responsibilities, take the necessary steps to fulfill them, and live up to expectations. Peter and the disciples never went back fishing but remained faithful to the Lord, their families, and the church till God took them to heaven.

I leave you with these words: dishonesty is heartbreaking, try something more heartwarming- faithfulness. God bless you.
