Resist him

Written by Derrick Owusu Antwi.

“Be sober; be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”(NKJV) 1 Peter 5:8-9

Has it become so uneasy to refrain from what we like so much or love doing? Often, we do the same thing repeatedly in anticipation of different results. God has blessed us with so many things pertaining to life which are of good will. 2 Timothy 1:7 uncovers that God has not given us the spirit of fear, rather of sound mind and of power. We are herewith encouraged to put these good virtues to use so as to draw away from the evil one (1 Peter 5:8-9).

When we stay vigilant, sober, humble, tact, meticulous in all our endeavors, we distance ourselves from the evil one. At times, we do not need the so-called “deliverance” when we go through hard times. Godly discipline is the remedy. From 1 Corinthians 9:27, Paul, the apostle emphasizes how he brings himself to order so as not to be a castaway. This is real self-discipline. An adage goes as “when the predator/enemy who runs after you is indefatigable, why rest?” You certainly have to keep your pace with focus.

Therefore, we should make every humble, obedient, circumspect effort, not lingering in darkness to stay away from the evil one and success shall be ours. May God help us to resist the devil as we journey along in life.
