What house built you?

Written by Kirk White.

What house built you?

• Jesus spoke about the house of Israel (Matt. 10:6; 15:24) and how they needed saving.

• He mentioned that any prophet who prophesied (preached) had a good report everywhere...except in his own country and his own house (Mk. 6:4).

• Jesus reminded his disciples that a house divided cannot stand (Matt. 12:25).

• He mentioned the fact that if a man could remove his bad behavior (cast out his old demons) and did not replace it with good actions, that demon he removed will say, "Look my old house is empty, I will go back and take some of my friends"...and the man becomes worse than he was before (Matt. 12:44ff).

• In Matthew 10:25 he said if unbelievers, "Called the master of the house Beelzebub, (lord of the dung hill) what would they call those who were of his household (the church)?"

• Finally, he offered an illustration about his church when he told about a master who was leaving his property in the hands of his employees and left on a long journey. The story begs the reader to watch, for no one knows what hour Jesus, the master of the house, would return (Mk. 13:32-35).

But still we have not answered, what house built you? Who is it that has made us who we are today? What life experiences have developed our outlook on life, our morals, even our career? Who is it that we leaned on the most when our house was like Dorothy's in the Wizard of Oz? In Matthew 7:24-27 Jesus talked about two men who were building a house. One was wise and one was foolish. Both men used good materials. Both men were capable builders. But both built upon differing foundations. The foolish one built upon the experience he gained from the world. The other built upon the word of God. When the storms hit and the winds howled and the floods were unleashed upon their founding principles - only one was left standing; the one who listened and obeyed the will of God. This story is told in a way that should remind anyone that if they build upon God's principles, regardless of what happens in your life; you can always come back and see the house that built you.

You feel broken inside? You feel out of place? Don't forget the memories you made in His house (the church) and be renewed by following the teaching you discovered here.
