The mind of the believer

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (NIV) Jeremiah 29:13

The New Year has started on a good note for many of us. But for others, the same cannot be said. What made 2017 a good or a bad year? Was it because God highly favoured us? Or was it because we put in much effort and still had no results to boast of? Or both?

For those of us who seem to think things did not go well, I am sure you have some questions for God. Some of these questions may be: Lord, where were you when I needed this thing urgently? Am I to wait on you in suffering? Should I bear this shame for the sake of your name? Will my story end this way? etc. Obviously, this truth will not sit well with many of us especially when we have been challenged to a battle by the evil one. My little reminder for you is in Jeremiah 29:11 and it says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

God’s words are sure and true. God says in those days when we will pray, He will listen (Jeremiah 29:12). This must also be our comfort as Christians. God’s plans are indeed not our plans and surely his ways aren’t ours too. Maybe last year did not favour you according to your rating, but God saw you through to 2018, which was His rating as favour.

Let the mind of Christ be your guide this 2018. Challenge yourself to see things the way God sees them. Make your plans for the New Year if you have already not done so. Tell God you know He has a beautiful plan for you this year. Take God on a ride to communicate your understanding of this plan even when you don’t know what that plan is.

The mind of the Christian no matter how last year turned out must be renewed in line with scripture. That is to find the Lord and to know him better this year. We must take hold of Jeremiah 29:12-13 as a promise and a faith building one too:

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart”.
