Remember

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

“Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father’s household, then the Lord will be my God and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.” (NIV) Genesis 28:20-22

It is most unfortunate that, man has quick memories of negative things in life than the important things we need to remember. So many things have happened this year which is near it’s expiry. What do you remember?

We have all enjoyed so many blessings as much as God planned and purposed for us. We faced different tunes of life but God’s grace gave us the ability to dance to them perfectly. Like the story of Jacob during his journey in Genesis 28, he encountered Jehovah. The encounter with God guaranteed many blessings in the life of Jacob and his descendants to come.

God promised him a land (property) on which he slept that night as property for him and his descendants. Similarly, God kept his promise for us by providing us with shelter the whole year. No matter how bad your shelter and protection have been, it may be better than what Jacob went through in the bush with a stone as pillow.

“And in you and in your descendants will all the families of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 28:14b). God gave Jacob a purpose for his journey. God's purpose was to bless the world through Jacob. God had a purpose for all of us since the beginning of the year. He has almost seen us through. What was the purpose of God for us? Were we able to accomplish it?

“And behold, I am with you and will keep you in all places where you go. And I will bring you again into this land, for I will not leave you until I have done that which I have spoken to you” (Genesis 28:15). This was God’s assurance of his presence with Jacob. The presence of the Lord has been with us from January till now. God has never failed us in all we did both wrong and right.

Jacob’s encounter with God called forth in him a desire to give something back to God. Remember what the Lord has done for you. God has granted us many gifts, he gave us a purpose and his presence has been by our side always. Remember all this and praise the Lord. Amen!
