Hidden explosives in our lives

Written by Alhassan Mohammed Sandargo.

“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy” (NIV) Proverbs 28:13

Several World War II bombs got buried on German soil until today. For example, recently such weapons have been found in Braunschweig and Berlin and ultimately deactivated. Once any is found, it becomes a matter of urgency in rendering it harmless. In such situations, several people are immediately evacuated to safety until such exercise is over.

On the other hand, and deadlier, are spiritual and “hidden explosives” all over the world and seated in virtually every human being: sin (Romans 3:23, 1John 1:8). It easily creeps into our lives subtly or overtly and appears harmless because it is in-seated (Mark 7:21).

Sin is a killer, deceiver, betrayer and a dangerous weapon. It does not destroy just a person, but it is a threat to the entire world (John 16:9). It takes a willing heart (Matthew 11:28), God’s word (Psalm 119:11) and the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:26) to both deactivate sin and weaknesses in our personal lives: and it requires much urgency as well.

May we seek the Lord in overcoming servitude and addiction to all forms of sin and “hidden explosives” in our lives. Lord help us, we pray.
