A message of hope

"This is what the Lord says, when seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future, then you will call upon me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you."(NIV) Jeremiah 29:10-12

It is observed that it took the effort of one man, Jeremiah, to carry the comforting words (words of hope) from God to the Israelites in exile. It is expected that, the Israelites would be filled with joy to know that the Lord had not forsaken them. As Christians, it is our responsibility to send a message of hope and comfort or lend a helping hand to people in circumstances they deemed hopeless. This act of kindness will go a long way to lighten their load. Let us be each other’s keeper.

The Israelites were in exile when the Lord sent the prophet Jeremiah to go to them with comforting words. The Lord could not speak to His people straight forward and therefore needed to use a human being to convey the message of hope to His people. God needs to use us as humans to execute His works. We serve as a medium through which God touches the lives of others. In other words, we are angels on earth.

Although we are angels on earth, we need to avail ourselves to be used. God does not force His will on us but has given us the power to choose whether we want to be used or not. The decision is all ours. Interestingly, it is easier to say a kind word to someone than to hurt others by what we say. It is better to reach out a helping hand than to be mean and selfish. It takes a lot of energy from us to frown than to give a smile. It is much easier to be a kind and gentle person than the opposite. So, let us send a message of hope to our neighbors without ceasing.
