Are you worried?

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

"Give heed to me and answer me; I am restless in my complaint and am surely distracted, because of the voice of the enemy, because of the pressure of the wicked; For they bring down trouble upon me and in anger they bear a grudge against me. My heart is in anguish within me, And the terrors of death have fallen upon me. Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror has overwhelmed me.” (NASB) Psalm 55:2-5

Life under the sun never gets simple as the years go by. Globalization, modernization and the surge in information and communication technology have made the world so complex and confusing. Many people have high expectations from the physical world. Inability to meet the expectations of life causes some people to suffer stressful mental conditions. An estimated 121 million people around the world currently suffer from depression and this number of patients diagnosed with depression increases each year by 20 percent. Depression and other mental problems are epidemic that is taking the world by storm. While some might overlook this disorder as something minor, the many deaths and suicide attempts that derive from it prove otherwise. These statistics are staggering.

Think about the millions of people who currently feel alone, hopeless and as if their life has no meaning. Some have been battling with worries for many years, been on and off different medications, and even sought counsel from pastors who specialize in this field. Such people are not at peace with themselves, other people around them and the environment. A worrying state of mind keeps you in the cold, dark and lonely feeling that you can never be normal again. While some don’t understand what they are going through, others are aware but clueless to what options are for them to normal and happy.

What are you worried about? Is it because of the unknown, failures in life, losing job or career, finding a good spouse, about your family life, about death and dying, about salvation? A worried mind manifests in these: disturbed feelings, distorted thinking, destructive actions and dysfunctional life. The solution for all these and many more are only found in Christ. Without Christ, there is crisis.

We can always find solace in the promises of God. Come unto Christ if you are worried and burdened (Matthew 11:28). Spend time with positive friends and family members especially with Christians. Focus on the positives of your life, your accomplishments and your goals. Try and stay clear of spending too much time alone. Be open, honest and let your loved ones know if you are struggling. Seek professional help after committing your worries to God. You cannot add an inch to your height or a single hour to your life if stay in a worried state (Mathew 11:27). God provides our needs according to his glorifies riches (Phil. 4:19). Engage in activities that you can spend time enjoying. The best way to be happy is makings others happy, try it.

We have a divine assurance from God. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you (1Peter 5:7). God is the creator of the universe and also to answer to all the problems on our mind, just trust him. Amen.
