You killed it with your thoughts

“One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever " (NLT) Genesis 37:5

Have you ever had a dream only to realize you don’t have the immediate resource to achieve it? Yes, I am sure it has happened to all of us before. We kill our dreams with our thoughts when we activate fear instead of faith.

In the past few years, I have learned that life is all about taking our chances and opportunities as and when they come our way. Procrastinating because of a little challenge here and there is a sure way to killing that dream you have. Joseph had a dream in a situation where sincerely speaking, it was virtually impossible for his family members to bow down to him at that time. We could say that everything seemed impossible and unrealistic at the time he had the dream. There were two options for him: a) to regard it as a mere frivolous dream resulting from overeating or b) a message from God for his breakthrough.

We are all aware of his choice. In spite of spending years in prison for a crime, he didn’t commit and being betrayed by his own for the sake of his dream, Joseph kept the faith. He didn’t look at the limitations, neither did he look at the waiting time, and the bible said, God was with Joseph (Genesis 37, 39, 40-42). Have you wondered why? It was because Joseph trusted in God’s power in the situation he was in, God’s will over his, God’s knowledge concerning himself and his dream as well as the time of God. It was also because he deeply and sincerely loved the Lord and revered him. In Genesis 41:51-52, Joseph said God has made him forget all his troubles. And God has made him, Joseph, fruitful in his grief. Amazing isn’t it!!! What a trust and love for the Almighty!!!

Do we love God? Do we take his words as precedence over our lives? The level of faith, love, and obedience we show towards God is what will sustain our dreams. No matter what we dream of/desire here on earth or in the life to come with Christ, it all starts with our thoughts.

In 2 Thessalonians 3:7-13, Titus 2:7-8, Hebrews 13:5-7, 1 Peter 2:21, we are admonished to follow good examples of those who have gone ahead of us in faith, love, good works among others. Let’s pursue our dreams and avoid being burdens on others. Let’s eschew fear and embrace God’s love which builds in us strong faith to fulfill our dreams. And above all, let’s dream big to achieve bigger things for the Lord’s work. It’s no sin to dream big, the only sin comes when you don’t do it according to the direction of the Lord. Beloved brethren in the Lord, the year is still young, and you have more room for an amazing journey with the Lord. Dream to love God, dream to live for him and to work for him with all you have. Find a space out of the 24hrs to tell God to make you dream about the things you could achieve for Him and ask for directions.

And when you have the opportunity to dream, stop killing the sufficient dreams from God with your thoughts. Fear can create a barrier, what you dwell on is what turns to reality! Fear blows things out of proportion. Don’t panic, stay like David in Psalm 27 and wait on the Lord. You will see his goodness in the land of the living. Shalom!!!
