Put a name on it

Written by Mantebeah Elizabeth Matilda Abena.

“The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all.” (NLT) Acts 4:33

The word of God says that the fervent prayer of the righteous availeth much (James 5:6). But I want to share a secret to opening doors of blessings in a Christian’s life. It’s a very simple theory but practicing it has been difficult for many of us believers. We are very quick to go to God in times of our desperation or need. It’s so easy for us to make a huge list of what we need from God and difficult to count our blessings.

Our God is an awesome God by default and everything He does is for our own good, whether we immediately understand it or not. As Christians, we need to strategically place ourselves to benefit at all time from God’s plan that shows us His awesomeness and blessings. Paul wrote in Ephesians 3:6: “and this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus.”

Unfortunately, many of us are not benefiting fully from this plan of God. Why is it so? It’s simple!. We have missed the point. Acts 4:33 tells us that the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and much grace was upon them. We don’t need to strive to know God’s awesomeness. We don’t need to do hard labour for God’s grace. His hands are already stretched holding us and pouring the blessings upon us.

To ensure God continually keeps blessing us, we simply need to do what I call “put a name on it”. The apostles knew that the blessing/promise is in Christ. So they named it as such and testified strongly on “the resurrection of Christ”. As you saw, God’s great blessing was upon them for that. We need to learn how to keep this blessing constantly in our life. This is only possible when we begin to put a name on all that God’s awesomeness is doing in our lives. If you were sick and found health later, call it as such “God’s healing in Christ”, and if God makes sure you constantly have food on your table, call it by name “God’s provision in Christ”. If it was academic success; “God’s knowledge in Christ” etc.

We cannot ignore these blessings constantly being poured on us daily and expect a mighty miracle or break through from God. Remember, God is awesome by default, so let’s begin to appreciate this awesomeness for it is the only way to "wow" us and leave His great blessing upon us.
