As a man thinketh – A Sequel to Growing Your Mindset

Written by Nana Kwame Owusu-Afriyie.

“Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life" (NLT) Proverbs 19:20

Benjamin Barber, an eminent sociologist, once quipped, “I don’t divide the world into the weak and the strong, or the successes and failures … I divide the world into the learners and nonlearners".

People with the fixed mindset agree with the statement: ‘You have a certain amount of intelligence, and you can’t really do much to change it.’ These are the nonlearners. Those who have a growth mindset agree that: “You can always substantially change how intelligent you are.” These are the learners.

Scripture says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (NKJV). Part of being a new creation is realised in the way we confront challenges: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13, NKJV).

Christ is the source of our strength and once what we want to do will bring glory to His name, He will give us the strength. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7, NLT).
