Critical choices – Who to serve

Written by Nana Kwame Owusu-Afriyie.

“But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we serve the LORD” (NLT) Joshua 24:15

Did you miss: Critical choices - Introduction?

Men in sundry times have groped after God but many have missed the mark. To quench our religious thirst, men sought and still seek for God but in the wrong places. Many think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold, silver or stone (Acts 17:29). Some unwittingly do not believe that God exists (Psalm 14:1).

“God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him. For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead” (NLT) Acts 17:30-31.

Though God has made us free moral agents (Genesis 2:16) and He literally wouldn't drag us into serving Him, He instructs us in His word to devote our lives to Him.

“For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil word with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God” (NLT) Titus 2:11-12.

Men will remain lost and grope in darkness if they forsake the Way because in Christ alone will they find rest (John 14:6).

“There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved” (NLT) Acts 4:12.
