Will Somebody Somewhere Please Love me?

By: Edward Amihere

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. "(NIV) 1 John 3:1

Bible Reading: Job 7:17-18

Journals of late Madalyn Murray O'Hare (a famous atheist, founder and President (1963-1986) of American Atheists) severally, had this “Will somebody somewhere somehow (emph mine) please love me? Will somebody somewhere somehow (emph mine) please love me?" She actually caused official Bible-Reading in American schools to end. This and other atheist stories may be old news to us.

Not only is it old news for us because I think it sometimes becomes suspect in our minds as we struggle with sick children, financial strain, marital problems, job stress, loneliness, academic failures; Christians actually begin to doubt that God really does love them.

“If God loves me,” we ask, “Why don’t I get well? If God loves me, why am I lonely? If God loves me, why am I so tired? If God loves me, why did I fail?”

Mrs. O’Hare evidently never believed it, but somebody somewhere did love her. The Bible makes a number of amazing, startling declarations, but none is more amazing and startling than this, that the God of infinite wisdom, infinite power, who created all that we see and all the uncharted solar systems that we can’t see is a personal being who knows you, who understands and, yes, who loves you. That God should condescend to set his love upon Adam and Eve, mere creatures, is truly wonderful. That he could continue to love them after he rebelled against him, that is simply incomprehensible. It is certainly not what we would have imagined.

Not only is it old news for us, but over time, as we are Christians for many years, I think it sometimes becomes suspect in our minds as we struggle with sick children, financial strain, marital problems, job stress, loneliness, besetting sins.

These and many more challenges can make we Christians begin to doubt if God really love us. “If God loves me,” we ask, “Why don’t I get well? If God loves me, why am I lonely? If God loves me, why am I so tired? If God loves me, why am I so ineffective?”

He gave up His only begotten son in order to pardon our sins. "He that spared not His own Son, but delivered him up for us all..." Rom. 8:32.

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us.” 1 John 3:1. What manner of love, what incredible love the Father has bestowed upon us.

The apostle Paul calls the Christians in Rome, “Beloved of God, called to be saints.” Romans 1:7.

“The God of love and peace shall be with you.” 1 Corinthians 13:11.

“God, even our Father, who hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,” 2 Thessalonians 2:16.

“What is man, that thou should magnify him? and that thou should set thine heart upon him?” Job 7:17.

It is indeed only a fool that will say in his heart " there is no God" because from the creation of the world , the invisible things of God are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that no man will have excuse.
