Are you spending time with God?

Bible reading: Psalm 73

Life can be frustrating at times, especially during those times when we see other people prosper while not giving one thought about the Lord nor spiritual things. Their lives just appear to be so perfect. For those of us who are committed to following the Will and Life of the Lord, it can be frustrating. Make no mistake about it. A businessman has dealings under the table, yet he gets a huge contract. Then there is the person who is a "partier" and lives life on the edge, yet in good health. You and your family are struggling to make ends meet financially, while others seem to get everything handed to them on a silver platter. This can make a god-fearing person feel cheated and say, “What benefit is it to me to be this good person for the Lord. It isn’t getting me anywhere?” If you feel this way or have ever felt this way, you’re in good company! The Psalmist wrote, “Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain.” (Ps. 73:13).

Please read the list stated in the 73rd Psalm. There is a grocery list of things that cause people to prosper. But friends don’t despair because the Psalmist wrote in Ps. 73:17, “Then I understood their end.” He realized that the tide was turning for these seemingly happy people. He sees that he isn’t missing anything of an earthly, material matter when he recalls his time in the presence of Almighty God! He first thought, “I was envious of the boastful, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.” Friends, I am not advocating that one cannot be a child of God and enjoy things in this life. We know God gives His people good gifts from above. I am talking about wicked, evil people who cheat and lie and life seems to bring them prosperity!

Remember their lot is but temporary. One day, there is going to a reckoning from God! This is God’s part and not ours. When we spend time with God and really see things from a Heavenly standpoint, our perspective changes drastically and our focus turns back to eternity. We may be jealous of the non-religious people, but we definitely won’t on Judgment Day! Wouldn’t you much rather win the war than a mere battle? When all is said and done, none of this will matter to us because our rewards aren’t on this earth! Our rewards are in heaven where the Lord is preparing a place for His faithful. (John 14:1-6).

Therefore, let the faithful praise God for His presence in this life and His promise of eternal life when we pass from physical death to spiritual life! Spending time with God always puts everything else in perspective!

God’s scales are true and accurate and He will weight those people and see if they are found wanting or not! Pray for the wicked that they see the error of their ways and that they will turn to the Lord. (Matthew 6:33-34).
