The Mystery of Stones: Christ Our Home

Written by Douglas Agyapong.

"Jesus is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved" (NIV) Acts 4:11-12.

The Bible likens Jesus Christ to a Stone. I have come to realize that a lot of lessons can be derived from this description and I present the first in this text.

From Genesis 11:3, it can be extrapolated that one of the original purposes of a stone was for construction. Stones were arranged, bound together by mortar, to complete a house or a building. The stone was, therefore, the simplest unit of a building. The Lord Jesus Christ, likened to a Stone, is, therefore, the source of certain benefits we can derive from a building or house and I take time to elaborate on some of these.

A house is a place of rest and Christ provides that. In His own words, he said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matt. 11:28)

Christ provides shelter. The absence of shelter exposes one to all the harsh climatic factors. Without Him, we are helpless under life's scorching sun of calamities. Without Him, we are easily beaten by life's storms of troubles and shocked by its thunders. But Jesus Christ is a haven; a source of comfort and protection. He may not stop the thunders and the sun will always burn but He can be right there with you, providing aid to your resilience. Please allow Him.
