“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (NIV) 1 John 4:9-10
Today, I would like us to consider the idea of going to work. Now I know that a job is a real blessing and I am very thankful for the one I have but I would be lying if I said that I was always excited to go to the job site. Sometimes I really don't want to go to work because I'd rather stay home where I can be at peace however, I go anyways because I know it's something I need to do.
Thinking about going to places that are not always pleasant got me thinking about Jesus coming to this earth. Committing myself to go to work each day is nothing in comparison with what it must have been like for Christ to leave heaven. Usually, when we go to work, we aren’t sure if the day will be good or bad but when Jesus left heaven to dwell among sinful man, He foreknew what was in store for Him and yet He went anyway. It’s amazing to think about the contrast in peacefulness between where He left and where He went to and how He still came, just for you and me.
The verses from 1 John show us why Jesus came to this earth, it was because of God’s love for us and His desire for “…not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9). As we reflect on our jobs, and other things in this life that can sometimes be hard to do, I hope we are reminded of the amazing sacrifice of our Lord and Savior and all that it means to us.
