Commitment in marriage

Written by Christopher Opey Tetteh.

"For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." (NIV) Ephesians 5:31

Many marriages could either be seen as a palace of peace or war between spouses. A marriage described as a palace of peace must begin with commitment to love, respect and be faithful to each other in the marriage.

If you were to hold a lump of dark green clay in one hand and a lump of light green clay in the other, you could clearly identify the two shades of colour. However, if you were to mold the two lumps of clay together, kneading them thoroughly, you would see just one lump of green clay, at first glance. Upon closer inspection, you could see the separate lines of dark and light green clay, yet it would be virtually impossible to separate the clay into two pure colours again. This is an image of what it means for a husband and wife to become "one flesh". Love binds the couple together, especially as they knead out some of their differences and develop a life of mutual goals, activities, and relationships.

May God help us to continue to show love, respect and faithfulness in our Christian marriages.
