Those who do not turn away because of me

Written by Mantebeah Elizabeth Matilda Abena.

“John’s two disciples found Jesus and said to him, “John the Baptist sent us to ask, ‘Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?’” At that very time, Jesus cured many people of their diseases, illnesses, and evil spirits, and he restored sight to many who were blind. Then he told John’s disciples, “Go back to John and tell him what you have seen and heard—the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor. And tell him, ‘God blesses those who do not turn away because of me.” (NIV) Luke 7: 20-23

Jesus ministry attracted a lot of questions and curiosity from almost everyone; from the scholars of the Law to the many crowd that followed him on a daily basis. The power of God affirmed greatly the works of His ministry. It was not surprising to hear John the Baptist’ disciples report these mighty works to their master. John for reasons that I am yet to identify sent these two disciples of his to ask Jesus “Are you the Messiah we have been expecting or should we keep looking for someone else?”

The above scripture reminds us of the power that comes with God’s message of salvation. But the question that we need to answer is “Are we still waiting for a different Messiah too?” If we believe that Jesus Christ is our only Messiah and no other, then we need to gird our loins and step out with His Good News.

For the Lord, who is able to fulfill every need has issued a blessing with His word for the weary in heart – “God blesses those who do not turn away because of me.” (Luke 7: 23, Isaiah 55:11) The world needs Jesus! It needs His Blessings! Like Queen Esther, we too have been called to His Kingdom for such a time as this (Esther 4:14) to fulfill a purpose.Lets us be faithful witnesses to His name.

Today, God’s blessings are coming to you (who have been saved to rise and evangelize) and to you (who is hearing his word), not to turn away from Him but accept His tender mercies of love.
