Theirs crooked, what about ours?
“And he testified with many other words and exhorted them saying ''save yourselves from this crooked generation” (NIV) Acts 2:40
About 2000 years ago, the apostle Peter stood in the midst of a generation he described as crooked to deliver the message of the gospel. That account could be described as one of the longest sermon in the holy book. He further warned them to save themselves from such perverse generation they found themselves in. Imagine that about 2000 years ago if Peter could describe their generation as a crooked one, how much more Peter would have described our world and generation today.
Consider this;
A generation where many people seek the creatures more than the creator,
A generation that immorality seems normal and modesty is defined as poverty,
A generation that loves war and considers it as the means to resolve conflicts,
A generation in which some Christians are shy to preach and speak the truth about the gospel (neglected the greatest commission Matt 28:19-20),
A generation where false preachers exalt and sell their efforts and name other than the name of God,
A generation where the true and pure religion is man’s opinion rather than God’s,
A generation in which sin is garnished to be attractive and normal, and
A generation that chooses themselves first and Jesus last.
I believe we will not be able to stand the description apostle Peter would have given us if he is to describe our present generation.
“What do we do now?” was what those present asked the apostles when they were pricked in their hearts (Acts 2:37). Now that we also know what our generation is and where we are heading to if we continue this path, what then do we also do now? The answer leads us to the steps to salvation in Christ. Hear the gospel (Romans 10:13-15), Believe (John 20:31), Repent of your sins (Luke 13:3), Confess your faith in Christ (Romans 10:9-10), be baptized in water (Acts 2:36-42), be added to Christ true church (Acts 2:41) and continue in the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20).
Truly, the times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom He has ordained and has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from death (Acts 17:30-31). May the good Lord grant us all pure understanding. Amen!
