God’s forgiving nature is overwhelming

Written by Douglas Agyapong.

"When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.” (NIV) John 8:7-11

The woman in the bible quotation was caught in an act of adultery and deserved to die. She was on the verge of being stoned until the master Jesus proved her innocence. He confiscated the rights of her punishers to execute judgment and set her free. I think this woman was humbled and pleased. I would not be surprised if she is the same woman who is seen pouring expensive perfume on Jesus's feet in Matthew 26.

A story is told of a priest who claimed that God usually spoke to him. A colleague priest had been doubtful and decided to put him to a test. One day, he met him and asked: "I hear God speaks to you. If that is true, could you please ask God tonight to reveal to you that dreadful sin I commit in secret". He took up the challenge.

When they met the next day, the colleague priest asked if God had spoken to him the night before. He responded in the positive. Awaiting the response in fear and regret, the priest answered: "Yesterday, God spoke to me. He said; 'Go tell that son of mine that his sins, I remember no more'". The colleague priest suddenly fell down in tears of thanksgiving to God.

Perhaps, you think your sins are too gross for God to forgive. Perhaps, you consider yourself too dirty to be made clean. I encourage you. God forgives extravagantly. Just approach Him in prayers.
