KINDNESS AND MERCY

“Happy are the kind and merciful, for they shall be shown mercy” (NIV) Matthew 5:7

Showing mercy means choosing not to harm someone you have power over. It is also choosing to forgive someone you have the right to punish.

People hurt us all the time and we in turn hurt them (likewise). Sometimes, the pains we inflict on them are much more than we experience in life. We gossip and say bad things about them. We even go to the extreme of taking what is theirs. The little things that they hold dearly unto, out of greed we succeed in taking them away.

Like the wicked servant, who wouldn’t forgive his fellow of his small debt, we also refuse categorically upon incessant plea from others (Matt 18:21-35). We cheat and mistreat them. We don’t show them any iota of mercy. We are not kind to the people who come to us in their pain, suffering and despair.Yet we say, we are the chosen ones of God. We proudly boast of being partakers of the heavenly kingdom. The sad truth is we are far from the Gate.

Believers in Christ , sojourners and pilgrims to heaven, our heavenly father is not happy with our attitude, because like the wicked servant, we have forgotten about all his goodness towards us. We have forgotten that it is in our own interest to show mercy unto others and be sensitive to their needs as well.

Jesus the author and finisher of our faith says: Blessed or Happy are the kind and merciful, for they shall be shown mercy. If we want to excel and be highly favoured everywhere then we need to reciprocate God’s mercy and kindness to us.
