Diligence

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

“Lazy hands make a man poor, but the diligent hands bring wealth. He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son ” (TLV) Prov. 10:4-5

Diligence means earnestness in accomplishing, promoting, or striving after something. As Christians, we need to be diligent in all our endeavors. Many people are trying to be successful by pretending to be servants of God. Some people think the generosity of God means to pray and sleep and expect “manna” to fall into their accounts.

2 Thessalonians 3:10 admonishes us that, the hand that does not work must not eat. This biblical principle is based on diligence and must be applied to achieve success in all endeavors of life. Many world discoveries, for example, were made by scientists and researchers who worked diligently to overcome all obstacles. This is often summed up in the saying “to be a genius is 2% inspiration and 98% perspiration”. Thomas Edison also stated that “opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”

As you start your day, remember whatever you do, you are to work at it with all your heart as if you are working for the Lord and not for man (Colossians 3:23). Allow God to work through your diligent hands, creating something good and beautiful for yourself, the world and the Kingdom of God.
