“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share."(NIV) 1 Timothy 6:18

Bible Reading: Luke 6:38

There are some principles of Mathematics that are difficult to explain in Christianity, for instance, the operation; “-” (subtraction). You would bear with me that, there is no way for you to subtract or give out two oranges from the five oranges in your possession and get the remaining oranges to be more than five. Well in Christianity, this is absolutely possible; far above our imagination. Luke 6:38 says; “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” There are many Christians who can bear testimonies to the power of giving or doing good. However, many of us have been reluctant in putting this to practice.

As a reminder, Timothy was asked to command his congregation to do good and this also goes to us. Let us begin to practice giving (if we are not doing so) not because we have been commanded to do so, instead it should be something that emanates from us all the time with little effort.

Christians are chosen for good works (Ephesians 2:10). As the good book says we are to be rich not in earthly possessions but in good deeds, let us be ready to give. It is now time for us Christians living under the protection and guidance of the Lord Jesus, to give everything to the Lord’s body including giving our time each day to help brethren in the Lord. This is one aspect that makes us productive and effective in Christ.

We are richer when we give and poorer when we keep. Let’s aim to be rich by offering ourselves, time and resources to help others. It’s our gift of a day to others and we would not regret giving.
