He keeps watch over you

Written by Mantebeah Elizabeth Matilda Abena.

“This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success." (RSV) Joshua 1:8

Recently, my day started with some "showers of blessing" in my area and as I went about doing my household chores, I thought of God’s hand in my life. I thought of the storms and the dark clouds over the sky in my life and how His ray of light filters through the dark clouds. I deeply appreciated the feeling of love and belongingness the thought of Him brought to me.

The first thought of a phrase was "In spite of it all He watches over me”. Yes, God watches over me! It brought a surge of new strength into my feeble legs and faint heart.

Beloved, I know many of you can attest to this feeling. If you are an exception to this experience, there is good news for you then. You too can have this surge of feeling that will provide you with a new strength to do God’s work by giving your life to Christ in baptism.

Proverbs 24:5 RSV says “A wise man is mightier than a strong man and a man of knowledge than he who has strength”. Wow! No wonder the devil tries as much as he can to keep us from the word of God and among people who are on fire for good works in the Lord. The devil tries as much as possible to sow discord within brethren in the Lord’s house because there is indeed strength in knowledge. That is a knowledge that comes only from learning and sharing experiences in the Lord’s vineyard.

We are all aware that the manifestation of the Holy Spirit differs in measure according to our individual faith. God in His infinite wisdom made a way to ensure we do not lack in anything but be each other’s keeper. The wise is stronger than the strong and the one who has knowledge than the one who has strength. What a way to keep us in constant faith!

As we ponder on ways to know God more and to build a better relationship with Him, it is important to believe and accept that the knowledge of God makes us wise. In all that we do and irrespective of what each person’s cross may be, God has already made provisions for daily strength for each one of us. All we need to do is to dig deeper and drink deep from His brook of grace and fountain of love that comes refreshingly each day from His word.

Let us meditate on His word and greatness each day even when all we see is dark clouds hanging over our heads. The scriptures in Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 1:2 are great reminders of those who are prospered by the Lord. It is therefore of no surprise that the Psalmist ended the whole of Psalm 1:6 with “For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous..."

God watches over you beloved in Christ. You need to accept this truth and to walk daily in newness of life knowing that the overseer of the whole world has his roaming eye on you. If the flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow parade themselves beautifully in this knowledge of God watching over them, then we who are made in His image ought to majestically walk in any storm with clouds knowing that, it’s just a matter of time. For with each cloud come rains!

Whatever showers of blessing you are expecting from God, I want to encourage you with the knowledge that your rainy days are near but you must acknowledge He watches over you even in the stormy gale, difficult and dark moments. Turn your tears to praise today!
