Make a choice today

Written by Dede Abebreser Tsonyake.

14Now fear the Lord and serve Him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshipped beyond the river and in Egypt and serve the Lord. 15But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the river or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”(NIV) Joshua 24:14-15

Joshua recounted how the Lord had been merciful to the Israelites right from Egypt to Jordon in Joshua 24:1-13. He goes ahead in verse 14 to encourage them to serve the Lord in all sincerity and to part away with the gods their forefathers worshipped. It took one man, Joshua, to bring the people of Israel to the right path-serving the almighty God.

Today, dear reader, I ask, “who do you want to serve?” You have one choice to make out of two; to serve God or the world. One distinct trait that separates humans from animals is the power to choose. As we grow, we are faced with the challenges to choose and to make good choices. Most often, we require information to help us make good choices as we journey on this earth. As you decide this day whom to serve, you will need guidelines to make a better decision. I recommend to you this day, that you serve the Lord because I have tried and tested that option and I can boldly say that, “SO FAR, SO GOOD!”

He has kept His promise from generations to generations and He still keeps His promise. These are some of the benefits you will enjoy if you decide to serve the Lord.

• He will guide your feet into the path of peace. Luke 1:79, Luke 2:14

• He will make your joy full. John 15:11

• You have the honour of abiding in His love. John 15:9-10

• He will make all things work together for your good. Romans 8:28

• He will provide all things for you. Matthew 6:33

• Most importantly, serving Him guarantees eternal life. 1 John 2:17, 1 John 2:25

The two most important meaning of the word, “serve”, is “to worship somebody” OR “to be used for a purpose”. Serving the Lord does not require just going to church. It requires dedication, faithfulness, reverence and giving yourself to be used for the Lord’s work in this world. Serving the Lord is a continuous process and not a one day job. It is either you are serving or you are not. You cannot be in the middle. You cannot afford to be indecisive in this matter (Titus 3:1). Neither can you be lukewarm (Revelation 3:16). You are either serving the Lord or you are not!

So I ask again, my dear reader, “WHO DO YOU CHOOSE TO SERVE THIS DAY?” I have chosen to serve the living God and to serve Him diligently. Make a choice now and I pray that you make the ultimate choice-SERVING THE LORD DELIGENTLY. God bless you.
