How great thou art
"For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities-His eternal power, and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."(NIV) Romans 1:20
The lyrics of two separate hymns come to mind when I think of the awesomeness of our God. The first hymn is “How great thou art” by Carl Boberg and the second is “The flowers, the sunset, the trees” by Jim Reeves.
Allow me to share with you some of the lyrics of the first hymn. “Oh Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder, consider all the worlds Thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed.”
I would love to share some of the lyrics of the second hymn as well. “Each time I touch a rose petal and breathe the sweet fragrance it brings, I know there’s a God up in heaven, no human can create these things.”
These two hymns present God to us in a unique way. They appreciate God’s awesomeness in the things we tend to overlook. Science has tried so hard to give reasons and meaning to everything on earth just to dispute the existence of God. Science has explained why we throw things up and they fall, how come it rains fishes, how rainbows are formed, why people float in space etc. One thing still marvels me, how come science cannot tell us how the world and its inhabitants came to be. The answer they keep giving us is, the world just appeared. However, you and I know that things that happen out of the blue do not look organized.
Let us take a look at the anatomy of the human body. Every little detail can be accounted for, right from the head to the feet. There is no doubt that the human body is a perfect work of an “invisible engineer”. Take a look at the world in which we live. Once science told us the world was flat when the bible maintains it was round. Today, science finally recognizes the fact that the world is not flat but round. The sun, the moon, stars and other planets cannot possibly coexist in a perfect way if they just sprang up. Everything is organized and working just the way they were intended to. This is definitely the handiwork of an “invisible engineer”.
The bible, not science, has been able to tell us how the world and its inhabitants came to being. The bible provides the fundamental answers to us as humans who we are and where we came from. This is the most important answer science has never been able to provide. The next time science tries to dispute the existence of God, try asking science to tell you how the world and its inhabitants came to being.
We do not need to see God to believe He exists. There are so many things around us that show that He exists. Take a bold step of faith today. See His awesome handiwork around you and glorify His name. God bless you.
