Living a day at a time

Written by Emelia Darko Adzimah & Worlanyo Komla Adzimah.

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God...This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (NIV) Ephesians 5:1-2, 14-16

Bible reading: Ephesians 5:1-16

Living a day at a time is the grace God bestows upon us to help take the pressures of life away and to give us the confidence that God is the Lord of tomorrow and He alone has the power to lead us into tomorrow.

In living a day at a time, as the book of Ephesians admonishes, we are required to be the best version of ourselves as we make decisions that are in tune with the spirit of God and to serve others.

Beloved, let us reflect on the words from the famous song “One day at a time” by Lynda Randle with an extract provided below. The song encourages us to ask God how to live a day at a time. Happy New Year!

Song: One day at a time (By Lynda Randle)

I’m only human

I’m just a man/woman

Help me to believe in what I could be

And all that I am

Show me the stairway

That I have to climb

Lord, for my sake, teach me to take

One day at a time

One day at a time, Sweet Jesus

That’s all I'm asking of You

Just give me the strength to do every day

What I have to do

Yesterday’s gone, Sweet Jesus

And tomorrow may never be mine

Lord help me today

Show me the way

One day at a time
