Will somebody somewhere somehow please love me?

"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” (NIV) 1 John 3:1

Bible Reading: Job 7:17-18

Journals of late Madalyn Murray O'Hare (a famous atheist, founder and President (1963-1986) of American Atheists) severally, had this “Will somebody somewhere somehow (emph mine) please love me? " She actually caused official Bible-reading in American schools to end. This and other atheist stories may be old news to us. However, I believe it sometimes flashes in our minds as we struggle with sick children, financial constraints, marital problems, job stress, loneliness, academic failures etc.

Christians with such thoughts may begin to doubt God's love for them. “If God loves me,” we ask, “Why don’t I get well? If God loves me, why am I lonely? If God loves me, why am I so tired? If God loves me, why did I fail?”

Mrs O’Hare evidently never believed it, but somebody somewhere (God) did love her. The Bible makes many amazing, startling declarations, but none is more amazing and startling than this, that the God of infinite wisdom, infinite power, who created all that we see and all the uncharted solar systems that we can’t see is a personal being who knows you, who understands and, yes, who loves you (Jeremiah 1:5, Hebrews 4:13, Matthew 10:30). That God should condescend to set his love upon Adam and Eve, mere creatures, is truly wonderful. That he could continue to love them after they rebelled against Him, that is simply incomprehensible (Genesis 3:21). It is certainly not what we would have imagined.

Apart from Adam and Eve, there are many evidence of God’s immense love for mankind. Paramount among them is how He spared not His own Son but delivered him up for us all so we can gain pardon for our sins (Rom. 8:32). In 2 Thessalonians 2:16, Paul talks about how God loves us and gives everlasting consolation and good hope to mankind through grace. Job was amazed by God’s love as he wrote: “What is mankind that you make so much of them, that you give them so much attention?” Job 7:17.

Beloved, these are a few examples to prove that someone far greater (God) loves you unconditionally. Trust and obey Him and He will never let you down.
