An ambassador for Christ

Written by Mantebeah Elizabeth Matilda Abena.

“We are Christ’s ambassadors” (NIV) 2 Corinthians 5:20a

A country selects an ambassador to represent them in the highest manner to another land. As a result, great care is taken by the president or king to select the finest representative.

Our King has selected us to represent Him. We are God’s children and His choice in reaching out to the world. We are therefore witnesses for God. Our witnessing for God takes two forms: a) Witness by our walk b) Witness by our talk.

One reason to grow in our relationship with Christ is so others can see Christ in our walk. This can have a huge impact on others. Jesus said: let your good deeds shine out for all to see so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father (Matthew 5:16).

We should never let the devil deceive us into thinking that we are work in progress, therefore cannot be an ambassador for Christ. Never hold back on sharing the message we heard before giving our lives to Christ. No matter your situation, share your message of Jesus with another person.

The Christian lineage

Written by Douglas Agyapong.

"He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit. While every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful" (NIV) John 15:2

Many people feel the need to have someone to continue their biological line. And so they make sure they give birth by, hook or crook, before death; someone they can call their own; someone, because of whom their biological make-up may dwell forever on earth. We need to entertain this feeling as Christians. As we have been born again, there's the need to help give birth to another of our kind: another Christian, another to occupy the niche you do in the church. You need to father a spiritual child. This is the only way through which we received Christianity. And is still the way through which Christianity will reach posterity.

Mary was conceived of the Holy Spirit and the Lord Christ was borne in flesh (Matthew 1:18). Afterward, many Christians have been raised through the working of the Spirit; but not without the seed of the word sown by the Christians through evangelism. Let us ensure the continuity of our lineage. Let us evangelize!

What have I done for Jesus? (II)

“And He said to them “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (NKJV) Mark 16:15

Jesus wants us to be the means of relaying His great message of the cross. Are we doing enough considering all He has done, is doing and will do for us? Not all the “don’ts” we do not do would take us to heaven, but also the “dos” we have to do also count (James 4:17)

Many Christians of today fear evangelism. They fear talking about the gospel of Christ because some do not really understand the gospel and/or are fearful of the questions that would come their way in the attempt of preaching the gospel. The root cause of this fear is that many Christians do not study the Bible.

Paul admonished Timothy to study the scriptures to show himself approved (2 Timothy 2:15) to be able to defend his faith and correct persons who teach false doctrines (1 Tim 1:3). How much attention do we pay to the scriptures? Is it the same as with our lecture notes, the newspapers, business presentations and so forth? Do we take time to find reasons and points that we can use in our daily lives and speak to others about Christ as well?

Some are trying their best, but most have laid the task on the “preacher/pastor” making him solely responsible for evangelism. But we must remember that we are all part of the body of which Christ is the head, and we are co-workers in the vineyard, and everyone would give accounts on that day.

There are many ways to spread the gospel - gospel brochures, newsletters, social media etc. Let us make Jesus go viral in our world, let us advertise Him to the perishing. Throw out the lifeline because someone is sinking right now.

It is time to pick up your Bible, pray, study and spread the gospel and then you could ask yourself, ''what have I done for Jesus?'' Surely, you would know the response to that.

“And He said to them “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (NKJV) Mark 16:15

When I wake up every morning, I pray and, in my prayers, I thank God, ask for forgiveness of sins and finally pour out my plenteous request at His feet (considering Phil 4:6). This has been a daily ritual for me. I sometimes forget to thank God in the night after the whole day’s activities, but I exonerate myself saying ‘oh I would definitely balance it off in the morning’. After some thorough thoughts, I had the feeling that I have been cheating God. Just thanking Him is not enough though He requires nothing from humans because He made everything. It is our duty to praise God but is praising God enough?

With many questions in mind, I reached a course from searching through scriptures that there is one task we can do as a direct command from Christ Himself which would also serve as a continuation of what He started when He came to earth. Christ’s mission was to save mankind. So, being co-workers in that regard would mean, doing something for Christ, right?

God has been faithful to His children (us) in numerous and diverse ways and we accord thanks to Him, sing praises, give huge sums of money to support His work and try to live a holy life. That is perfect, but are these enough at all?

All these acts bounce back to us in the form of blessings from the same God, but what have we done for Him? To talk of the many great things He does, and even that gory and gruesome death He embraced on the cross for our sake, we can never repay. So, what have we done for Jesus?

Before He left earth, He echoed these word ‘‘Go into the world and preach my gospel and make disciples of all nations” (Mark 16:15, Mathew 28:19). Let's make the gospel go viral just as we make political, social and economic news viral. Let's go tell it to the world, take it to every part of the earth. He wants to save the perishing through us, He wants us (those who know Him) to be co-workers in the vineyard. Man cannot save, Jesus saves, but He wants to use us to save others. What have you done for Jesus?

Do you want to be that salt?

Written by Dede Abebreser Tsonyake.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.” (NIV) Matthew 5:13

Once I forgot to add salt to the soup I prepared and I was surprised that the soup was tasteless even though all the necessary ingredients were present. Salt, the inexpensive and smallest required ingredient of the soup managed to render the entire soup tasteless with its absence. Salt is a unique ingredient-if absent, poses a problem (tastelessness), if not enough also poses a problem (required taste not achieved) and if too much is added, also poses a problem (salty, not edible food). Salt is an ingredient that one needs just the right amount to make the food (soup) tasty.

It is, therefore, no coincidence that the Bible likens Christians to the SALT. We are supposed to provide “taste” to the earth wherever we find ourselves as Christians. The earth is “tasteless” without Christians just like the soup was tasteless without the salt. We are the important “ingredient” and must rise to our role on earth.

Our presence as followers of Christ must be felt wherever we go. Our actions and in-actions must speak of who we are. Do you bring peace where there is chaos? Are you that individual that everyone can proudly point to and say you are like Christ? Are you that individual whose presence will be sought in times of difficulties to bring that godly relief?

We as Christians must let our SALT be so tasty before men, that they may taste our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven. I thrive to be that SALT. Do you want to be that SALT too?
