Rebound

Written by Mantebeah Elizabeth Matilda Abena.

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." (NIV) 1 Corinthians 9:24-25

The crown that will last forever!” is the part of the scripture reading that caught my attention the most. It's an amazing truth to behold. It gives birth to new hope for us, Christians. It brings peace to our weary soul. For we know that our labour in the Lord is not in vain and that a glorious crown awaits us. One that is everlasting.

The question now is what have we done or willing to do to ensure that we don't miss out on this eternal crown? In response, the word of God says … “Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training.” Does this agree with our actions so far or what we plan to do? Today each of us must examine our lives in light of the eternal crown. Are you running to win the prize? Have you gone into strict training in order to win?

It's important to understand that we are not competing with anyone in this Christian journey but ourselves. If for some reason you have failed the Lord; stop comparing yourself to others. Each of us has a different cross to bear. So get up and gird your loins for the needed training to bounce back to your first love (Christ).

Dearly beloved, if for some reason you are not running the course, I encourage you to get on your marks and run.

If you have been resting your head under the fig tree (comfort zone), I suggest you rise up and run for the journey ahead is long.

If you are running but feels like stumbling because of the rocky terrain, may the Lord bless you with steady feet to finish the race. Don't be overwhelmed by fear for the victory crown is ahead of you.

If you have fallen already and afraid to rise, I urge you to rise and shake off the dust, bounce back and see the joyous end you will achieve if you don't relent to staying on the ground.

Christ awaits to give us the crown He fought hard to win for us. All we have to do is to sincerely keep running the race until we win the prize; each of us bearing our own cross and giving ourselves to worthy training till we get the eternal crown.

Don't just run for nothing; run to win beloved. Amen.
