Your choice, your responsibility

Written by Mantebeah Elizabeth Matilda Abena.

"Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our own conduct "(NLT) Galatians 6:4-5

Every decision we make we are told comes with a certain level of consequence. For this, we know and appreciate in our daily lives. But what we forget is not only the consequence that is attached to our choices; there is also what we call responsibilities.

When you decide to let go of a job opportunity with a low salary, the obvious consequence is that you may or may not get the same offer. Chances are that you may end up after several attempts with a job that even pays 1) less; 2) more or 3) no job at all. With this in mind, we set our minds for the untold. But because we don’t take the time to prepare for the responsibilities attached to any of the results from our choices, we are entangled with so many sins along the way – frustration, disappointments, anger, haughtiness, jealousy, slandering, etc.

We forget that when our choice lands us in a low paycheck, we have the responsibility to do multiple jobs to augment our chances of meeting our expenditure. No job means you have to start up something for yourself, etc.

Our failures to take responsibilities for our choices have brought so many problems to many of us. We tend to compare ourselves to others and fail to see the hand of God in our lives. We become unhappy and do not put in much effort in whatever we find our hand doing because, in our hearts, we feel and believe God has not dealt well with us. We assume Him to have handed us over to our enemies without any attention to our needs. We often say “I think God must not care about how I am doing”. Guilty as I am, I have learnt my lessons the hard way and I guess you too can relate to this.

Whatever we choose to do, it does not only bring consequences but responsibilities as well. We need to arise to meet each and every one of them along the ladder. Schooling demands hard work and serious studies, marriage requires commitment, working demands sacrifice and selflessness, parenting invokes a sense of responsibility and vigilance, Worshiping God requires commitment, dedication, diligence, sacrifice, persistence, love, endurance among many others.

Whatever we choose to do; God demands that we are responsible for our conduct. Whatever we find our hands doing, we must do it for the Lord and He requires that we find satisfaction from it (Ecclesiastes 2:24). If the opposite is your situation, today God is calling you to come to him and have a chat about that. He wants to hear from you. Give Him a reason for a new season in your life. For each step along the choices we make, there are responsibilities attached to it. Are you prepared for the responsibilities attached to the blessing you are praying so diligently for?

May God bless us and keep us from all evil as we walk in His ways. May He grants us vigilance as we work for him in every decision we take and may He bless us with the right attitude to respond effectively to the responsibilities attached to our victory songs. God, grant us the satisfaction that comes with working for you in every job. In Jesus name Amen!!!
