Tools for God

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

“And He saw two boats lying at the edge of the lake; but the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets. And He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little way from the land. And He sat down and began teaching the people from the boat.” (NAS) Luke 5:2-3

There are so many things that happen in life. Man is never satisfied with what we have and who we are. Some people are not happy because they are going to the same workplace they are tired off. To some, they are not doing their dream job. Others have no work at all and feel that life is hopeless. Many are not happy with who they are and what they have. What some people observe and experience makes them conclude that there is no meaning to life.

Simon Peter was born and trained through the normal way of life. At some point, he learnt a trade to become a fisherman. He was able to organize tools like a boat and fishing net to earn a living. He never anticipated that those items he was organizing for himself could serve a divine purpose.

After a terrible time at sea one night, the story of Peter changed. Peter and his team toiled the whole night without a catch of fish. "Simon answered and said, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You say and let down the nets" (Luke 5:5).

The fishing boat owned by Peter became a pulpit Jesus Christ used in proclaiming the good news to the world: “And He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little way from the land. And He sat down and began teaching the people from the boat” (Luke 5:3). The same boat was a platform on which Christ Jesus performed a miracle. “When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch” (Luke 5:4). “When they had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and their nets began to break” Luke 5:6.

Where you are in life may not be your preferred choice but God knows why you are there. There is a divine purpose for what you have and who you are. The environment you are in and the people around you are all for a purpose. Who you are and all that you have can be used by God as tools to accomplish a divine mission.

What tools do you have today? Are you willing to make them available to God as Peter did? Be a profitable tool for God to use to accomplish his divine mission. Amen
