Lets our lives shine

"While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world"(NIV) John 9:5

Our Lord Jesus gave us the great commission in Matthew 28:18-20; "Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Accordingly, it is the duty of all Christians to do what makes God happy because we profess to love God. When you are in love with someone, you do what makes him/her happy, i.e., you seek their happiness and through that, it brings you joy. It is the same analogy when it comes to telling people about the gospel.

It is great to want to tell someone about the word of God but not everyone will listen. However, the saying, actions speak louder than words, should manifest in our day to day living. We should strive to live a blameless life so when people see our actions and inactions, even without words, they would see the glory of the Lord in us. In Acts 11:26, the disciples were called Christians first at Antioch. There is no doubt that their lives were so much like Christ that observers could just not help but associate them with the name “Christians”. Today, we proudly call ourselves Christians, but are we acting like Christ?

Matthew 5:16 (KJV), “let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” When we live the genuine Christian life and obey God's commands, our lives would be the gospel that would draw people to our Lord, hence salvation for their souls. It is therefore imperative to keep our lives in check. We may fall along the way as we try to live blamelessly and God-fearing lives but we should quickly get back on track by repenting and asking for forgiveness and the self-control never to tread that path again because we do not know who is watching and what life we are impacting by our actions.
