Are you a traitor?

Written by Grace Ayiwah Fosu.

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (NKJV) Romans 12:2

Once a man was elected ambassador to an enemy nation. His alacrity to serve his nation was laudable, and so he was trusted by his people. In preparation to represent his country in the enemy nation, he had to learn their language, customs and cultures so he could adapt well in order to stay peacefully in the enemy country to be able to accomplish his mission. Though he found himself with the enemies, but he had to relate cordially with them in order not to cause any suspicion so he could carry out his mission wholly.

Unfortunately, this man found coziness in his new place and forgot his mission. He was showered with comfort in this foreign land in which he fell deeply in love with. His mission was compromised. The enemies took this enormous opportunity to extract every bit of information from him concerning his country. This jeopardized the entire mission. The man was tagged a traitor when his deeds were made clear to his home people. The country then cut ties with him, and that was just the beginning of his end.

Just as this man was an ambassador to his country so are Christians ambassadors for Christ representing the heavenly kingdom. God trust us so much that He has placed us on earth as His representatives. Most of us have betrayed our homeland (Heaven) forgetting we are just pilgrims (1 Peter 2:11) on this earth which is a passage to our eternal home. Worldly pleasures and profound consciousness of the things in the world are putting people in danger as they have fallen deeply in love with them, making them enemies of God and thus traitors. (Romans 12:2)

Our lives on earth here determine our stand whether we are for God or we are against him. The moment we fall in love with the world neglecting our mission as sojourners and ambassadors we become traitors. Though the mission is tough we should bear in mind that we are not home yet, and it is either we join the enemy (the world and its passing pleasures) and betray our home or we fight on and reach home safely.
