Your presence Lord!

Written by Mantebeah Elizabeth Matilda Abena.

“Unseal my lips, oh Lord, that my mouth may praise you” (NIV) Psalm 51:15

Our preacher often say that “if we want to see God’s hands in our lives, we see it all the time”. Yes, I believe in God’s love for me because I experience it each time I see myself awake from my bed. I also believe that God’s will always prevail and He is constantly working in my life. However, one thing I don’t know is “how” He works out difficult situations I encounter. My testimony is a bit unusual compared to most events that happen to Christians.

I often sing the song “10,000 reasons” by Matt Redman but little did I know what I was bargaining for. For some time, it looked as if nothing went right in my life. In the midst of the up and downs, my prayer to God was that whatever He has in stored for me each day, all I want is to be singing at the end of the day.

So it happened one day when I had to undertake an exam. During the exam, something extraordinary took place that deepened my understanding of God’s love. Left with 10 minutes to end the exams, I realized I was left with a whole essay to write and this question was worth 30 marks. And at that moment, as I watch the clock, all I could think of was “God, let your will be done. Help me finish this paper!” Little did I know that the examiner was watching me all along. Leaning on God’s grace, I kept writing and hoping to stop when the 10 minutes is up. But the 10 minutes was never up until I finally concluded my essay with a period. Just then, the examiner came over to my table, looked at my work and said stop work. What? Yeah! She was waiting for me to finish!

Beloved, I believe what happened was a clear manifestation of God’s presence and favour. Like Job, I also confess you Lord and say in shame - “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me. You said, ‘Listen and I will speak! I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.’ I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.” Job 42:2-6;

May you also experience His presence as you appreciate the events in your life.
