Ungratefulness
"All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If we had died in Egypt! Or in this desert! Why is the LORD bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?” And they said to each other, “We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt." (NIV) Numbers 14:2-4.
Have you ever been ignored after doing something nice to someone before? How was your mood or feeling about the situation? That is just a minute description of how we treat our maker and others daily. Ungratefulness is the attitude of not valuing what you have, what you have received and not appreciating it. It is also forgetting or poorly appreciating products and services received. In fact, unexpressed gratitude is ingratitude.
Why are we not thanking God? We live in a world where materialism and modernism are reigning. We are always setting very high personal projections for ourselves and do not appreciate anything less than the goals set. Nothing satisfies us anymore, always looking for greater levels. Modernism has placed around us a lot of “interesting” things and activities distracting us from having time to appreciate God and fellow men. We are now competing so high among ourselves instated of complimenting each other. Men are always craving for what we don’t have but fail to appreciate it whenever our requests are granted. In an attempt to reach the skies, we fail to see and appreciate the beautiful environment around us. Mankind is so intrinsically ungrateful.
This is what Apostle Paul prophesied, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God” 2Tim 3:1-4.
We don’t need to wait for special or big events to show appreciation to God and fellow humans. Anytime is the ideal time. We shouldn’t be like the Israelites that always complained and failed to see the work of God in their lives to appreciate it. Appreciate God and people around you today. If you can’t be grateful for the good things that you have, be grateful for the bad things that you don’t have. Amen.
