Joy in the Lord

Written by Alfred Ofori Agyemang.

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich” (NKJV) 2 Cor. 8:9

Many people hope and trust in perishable things of this world to give them pleasure. Some are willing to sacrifice everything within their possession and beyond to achieve such physical passions. Unfortunately, these physical passions, possessions and powers are only limited to the physical world and do not follow our spirits when we die.

Christians have the almighty God as their King and if God is for us, who can be against us (Rom. 8:31). Having God as your King should bring so much joy to Christians. The source of joy for people who depend on God comes from three angles. The record of God dealing with man in the past, the influence of God in the current affairs of mankind and the assurances of God for the future.

From the historical records in the scripture, God has been consistently involved in the affairs of mankind. The whole idea of man’s creation came from God and all provisions humanity needs have been provided before man came into existence. When mankind sinned against God, He still came down to care for us. Remember the stories of Adam, Abraham and Moses.

The great story of God dealing with man still continues today. God’s present output in the universe cannot be hidden. Christ said, “…I am with you till the end of the world” (Matt. 28:20). God does not disappoint and cannot lie as humans do. His decisions are the best and you can depend on Him for safety and providence.

In dealing with the unknown future, God has made provisions for mankind. His promises in scripture are too good to ignore. “Till the end of the world” is a strong assurance we have in God. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you (1Pet. 1:3). The hope of the righteous will be gladness, But the expectation of the wicked will perish (Pro. 10:28).

Mankind has the privilege of finding joy in the Lord by sacrificing our will to Him and living according to His principles. If we decide not to take the joyful provisions of God, the options left are just not pleasant. But the eyes of the wicked will fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost (Job 11:20).

God created us and has our ultimate interest at heart. "Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life" (Rev. 2:10). With all the powers, resources and provisions of God, we have no alternative than to be joyful in God.
