He makes Himself mighty through you

Written by Dede Abebreser Tsonyake.

“These are the words of Him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What He opens no one can shut, and what He shuts, no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.” (NIV) Revelation 3:7-8

After watching the movie, “Facing the Giants” for the second time, I knew I had to write this very devotion. This movie shows how God makes Himself mighty in situations man deem impossible to turn around. As I watched the movie, the story of how David defeated Goliath (1 Samuel 17), the story of Joseph, Jacob’s favorite son (Genesis 37, 39, 40, 41), the story of Esther and Mordecai (the book of Esther) and the healing of the man born blind by Jesus (John 9:1-12) kept flashing in my mind.

How many times have we tried and failed at something we are confident we can handle? How many times have we lost hope because we seem never to get a breakthrough in our lives? How many times have we become laughingstocks because failure has been our friend and nothing we do succeeds? And how many times have we felt our world was crushing because problems in our lives seem endless? If you find yourself relating to these questions, God is asking you to cheer up! All these are happening so He can make Himself mighty through you for the world to see.

These hard times of our lives do call for a closer walk with God. It calls for increased devotion to the word of God and asking for direction to sail through. This is the time to make the bible and prayer your companion. It is the time to practice every word from the bible and keep yourself from all forms of unrighteousness.

While at it, do not forget to trust and have faith that our God is mightier than the giants of failure that stares right down at you. Trust and faith go with works. The bible admonishes us to back our faith with deeds (James 2:18-20). As you wait for God to show Himself mighty in your life, you need to do your part. Do the part you find possible and leave the impossible part for Him. A story is told of two farmers who prayed for rains. One farmer, as he prayed, went ahead to clear his land as he waits for the rain and the other did nothing. The first farmer clearly backed his faith in God with works.

And lastly, remember to give God the praises and adoration when things start getting better and finally get better in your life. Do not forget who helped you and recognize Him for all to see and know how mighty He is. May the Lord bless us all.
