He shares in our sorrows

"And Jesus wept.” (NLT) John 11:35

Bible reading: John 11:17-40

This scripture has unique characteristics which I would want to share with you. Apart from it being the shortest verse in scriptures, it tells us also of the immense love of God. What would cause the son of man to break down into tears? He didn’t just cry, He wept.

Beloved of God, don’t allow your personal fears and your inability to understand God's works to make you believe that God isn’t concern about you and what happens to you. Bible says you are the apple of God's eye (Zechariah 2:8). Anything that affects you and causes you to hurt causes Him more pain. He weeps over our problems especially when we don’t put our total trust in Him.

In John 11: 21, 32, I think Mary and Martha were not attacking Jesus but rather were expressing their faith in Him and what they knew Him to be able to do. His weeping here was more of His demonstration of love for Lazarus and the sisters than lamenting over the unbelief of the people.

This story does not only teach us about trust in God but his unselfish love for us. Jesus was moved by the tears of those he love (in this case: Mary, Martha and the people weeping). When we allow God to take control of our problems as Mary and Martha came to understand at the end (John 11:22, 27), not only will we find solution to our problems but others who don’t know God will see how much he loves us and in turn give their lives to God.

No matter what happens, don’t lose hope in God, His love for you is too deep.
