Let go and let God

Written by Dede Abebreser Tsonyake.

"Do not be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God."(NIV) Philippians 4:6

Over the years, man has depended on himself more than on God. Science and discoveries keep drawing man so far away from God instead of bringing man closer to God. Dependence on self has made man more anxious especially when answers cannot be found for many of things man battles against.

It’s time to trust God and take things that make you anxious to Him in prayer and supplication. Many are anxious about the future and what the future holds. Will it not be better to commit the future to the one who holds the future? Others are anxious about illness that is having a toll on their finances but seem not to get cured while others are battling with terrible relationship between their spouses or children or both. What are you anxious about?

It is important to put our trust in God in all things for it is He who is working things together according to His purpose (Psalm 55:22, Matthew 6: 25-34, Romans 8:28). We must not be anxious, for to be anxious is to doubt God’s ability to do all things for our good. In order not to be anxious about happenings around us, Philippians 4:6 tells us to communicate with God in prayer about our fears and petition Him for help. As we pray and petition God for help, it is important to be thankful for all that He has done and acknowledge that we are nothing without Him. When we commit our anxieties to Him in prayer through thanksgiving and believe that He will answer us, the result is the inner peace of heart and mind (Philippians 4:7).

Once I watched a father with his son as they played the game “throw up and catch”. The father threw the son up high and the son giggled as he flew up high and kept giggling as he fell back into the father’s arms. I watched with amusement and it was obvious the son was so sure the father would never let him fall. Letting go and letting God deal with all anxious matters in your life is more like this son who trusts that his father will always catch him and never let him fall.

Let go and let God deal with it for that is the only way to gain inner peace of heart and mind and it feels really good when you have inner peace. God bless you as you cast your anxieties upon Him.
