Who are you?

Written by Maame Dedaa and Nana Kwame Owusu-Afriyie.

"Then who are you? We need an answer for those who sent us. What do you have to say about yourself?" (NLT) John 1:22

For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (NLT) (Ephesians 2:10)

In my daily reflection in the bible, I have come to love two characters. They are my favorite: John and Jesus! John knew who he was, so did Christ Jesus and at a critical point when they were both asked to answer that question, they were confident about their answer. Read John 1:22 and Matthew 26:63-64

Who am I?

I find myself asking this question every single day, in every circumstance of life and in my relationships. I find my identity in Christ Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). It is by Him, through Him and for Him that I live (Philippians 1:21).

In Christ, the standard has been set for what I say, how I say it, my actions, what I focus on, my achievements, relationship, spirituality, religion, thoughts, emotions, celebrations and achievements (Read Ephesians 5:7-14). I can say, it serves as the guiding principle of my earthly sojourn, where I am coming from, where I am and where I am heading to.

Who are you?

It is hard to answer that question, mostly when you are asked at a critical point in your life. It is a question that calls you to have a long thought about your existence and being. Christ was so confident of who He was to the extent that when He was asked in a rather threatening manner, He affirmed it with no fear or favour (Matthew 26:64)

Imagine one day, you wake up and find the Angel of your future asking you this question. He wants to know to be able to guide you through this journey. What will your answer be?

Personally, I have come to the point where the constant reflection of the Word, time spent in prayer, etc have taught me the essence of the thoughts about my identity in Christ.

As a growing Christian, your values and morals are refined as pure gold out of dross. The Holy Spirit is in the refining business with you and me, and we are constantly being changed by circumstances and blessings (sometimes in disguise) but the most critical part of this is the need to continually ask yourself the question: Who am I?

Who am I at the difficult points in my life? Who am I at my happiest moments? Who am I when all is lost?
