It’s Serious
"It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." (NIV) Heb 10:31
There used to be times when so many things were done in secrets in many cultures because they were seen as unacceptable and shameful to mankind and society. Morality is based on God; he is recognised in all cultures. Times have really changed and now what was seen to be sin and unacceptable standards of life according to God’s word and societal standards are now magnified, glorified and defended by all kinds of people.
The word of God is true and will forever stand tall above all human standards. The lives we possess have an owner and he has standards and expectations for us. Sin is anything against God. Trespassing of God’s law, anything out of faith (Rom 14:23) and not doing the right thing (James 4:17) are all sins.
Sin is a shameful, sickness to mankind and it is unacceptable to God our maker. Let me share the experience of King David who was a friend of God. An act of sexual immorality resulted in; the death of the innocent husband, death of the baby that resulted from the immoral sexual act, David’s son raped his sister; Absalom had carnal knowledge of David’s wives and Absalom his son was killed. The whole family of Achan was killed because of a single sin (Joshua 7:25).
What is so pleasant about sin? Don’t be enticed by the misleading packages and labelling the world is putting on sin. Sin is sin. The punishment for sin is so great for any person to bear. Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is more than I can bear” (Gen 4:13). Be by the side of God and run from sin. Yes, you can by the help of the Holy Spirit and personal dedication. Never dream of committing conscious sin, you will regret it now and the world to come where eternal punishment is waiting.
